Identity in Crisis

Identity forms the core of who we are. It is our self-image, shaped by memories, values, beliefs and relationships. In times of stress, trauma or mental disarray, this identity can become confused—or even temporarily fragmented. Some individuals then lead two lives: a visible life and a hidden one. Such a double life rarely leads to liberation. On the contrary, it often heralds a psychological crisis.

In a world overflowing with information, distraction and self-improvement, the word awakening echoes louder and more frequently. We hear of spontaneous awakenings, kundalini risings, shifts in consciousness and “seeing the truth.” But what is awakening, really? Is it a moment? A process? Or perhaps a deep remembering?

Some days it feels like the world is burning — not only out there, but inside us too. Maybe it’s the heartbreak of someone walking away. Maybe it’s a loss, an unanswered question or the suffocating weight of uncertainty. And maybe, just maybe, it’s all of it at once.

A growing movement on TikTok promotes the idea of “escaping the Matrix” claiming that our world is an illusion designed to keep us controlled. Influencers discuss spiritual awakening, hidden truths and breaking free from societal programming. While this resonates with ancient philosophical ideas, it also carries risks of detachment from reality.
